Hello there reader!
Thank-you for visiting my blog. I am very excited to start this adventure with you, hopefully by the end of this article you will learn a little bit more about me!
My name is Rachel. I am a 20yr old Canadian girl, in my first year of University majoring in English Literature. Ever since I was a young girl, I loved to write! I would write stories, make up news articles, invent games, and write every single night in my journal. Since I have grown up, nothing has changed! Haha.
Briefly I had attempted to take up the hobby of scrap booking. I have always ADORED stationery, and just between us too, I have become a bit of a hoarder of it, haha. BUT I felt like my life wasn’t interesting enough to scrap book. I didn’t do enough “fun” things, or travel, and I just felt like my mundane life wasn’t worth scrapbooking. This is of course, not the case. You can scrapbook about ANYTHING your heart desires, it doesn’t have to be interesting to EVERYBODY, it just has to be interesting to YOU. Had I realized that earlier, perhaps I wouldn’t have “quit” the hobby, but it is definitely something I plan on getting back into.
When I was in Highschool I would always use the agenda’s given to us to keep track of tests and homework, but it lacked creativity and colour. In grade 12, I had been scrolling online of Pinterest, and found the Happy Planner, and it had EVERYTHING I WAS LOOKING FOR! I loved the customization, all of the beautiful colours, and of course, the stickers! I had used one while in school, but once I graduated I didn’t go to university right away, I had taken 2 years off. So I didn’t have as many things to put into my planner anymore. Although, I do still have one and decorate it occasionally, since it is still so much fun to me!
This is around when I had found my love for Bullet Journals. I had so much free time on my hands, I spent a lot of time decorating and setting up my bullet journal. I loved how you could design every single page to fit your specific needs. At the start of every month I would pick a theme, and design my monthly calendar, expense tracker, habit tacker, etc. Every Sunday, after work, I would plan my next week and track my work schedule, any important events, and tasks to accomplish in the upcoming week. I also had an abundance of stationery items, such as : washi tape, stickers, paper, sticky notes, coloured markers and pen, and other fun items for decorating, Bullet journaling had become a creative outlet for me. I still use my bullet journal currently, although with my busy schedule, it has become much more minimalistic. This is totally fine though, because everyone’s bullet journal is unique. You can make it as elaborate, or as minimalistic as you wish. Everyone has a different style, and creative preference.
All of this creativity and love of writing has brought me to the succession of my final hobby: SNAIL MAIL! Almost two years ago, I had been scrolling on instagram and came across people decorating envelopes. I had thought how strange it was, seeing as how much of the mail I receive is just government documents, bank statements, etc. Mail isn’t creative? Believe me when I tell you, how wrong I was! I had fallen down a rabbit hole of snail mail and pen pal letters. Instagram is full of these beautiful and creative accounts. I had quickly realized that these people had actual pen pals that they would send mail to, across the globe. CRAZY, RIGHT? Especially for the time 2016, but it is true. It still happens today! I had found a few people to exchange letters to over instagram, and voila! I had discovered my current and most favourite hobby of snail mail. It is such an amazing feeling to go to the mail box, and receive a handwritten letter. It is also a great way to make friends, and to let your creative juices flow. You get to learn about different cultures around the world, share your life with your new friend, and possibly send small gifts or stationery to each other depending if that is something that interests you both. It is so amazing, honestly. I LOVE decorating pen pal letters! Since I have so much stationery, I really put an effort into every. single. one and make sure that what I am sending out, is something I would also enjoy receiving.
Since, I am studying English Literature and I have always had such a love for writing, it only made sense to me to start a blog. Previously I had thought that only professionals or you tubers had blogs, but clearly this is not the case. The only thing you need to start a blog is to have a passion about something! And oh boy, let me tell you I am so so very passionate about crafts, and writing! In this blog, please expect to find posts about stationery reviews, craft ideas/DIY’s, posts about my journal/ personal stories, and of course, snail mail letters. Hopefully you have similar interests, and will become a daily reader here!
